Interesting diet and nutrition facts.

Just some interesting stuff I read today and don’t want to forget:

  • Calcium absorption from milk is only half of that from vegetable sources.
  • Supermarket vegetables and fruits are usually dead by the time they arrive on the shelves, kept fresh only by the means of nitrogen (and other preservatives). Because of this, they lack the nutrients of their organic counterparts.
  • Seaweed contains more calcium than milk, more iron than meat, and more protein than eggs.
  • Choose smaller fruits in supermarkets (eg. cherry tomatos, blueberries). They tend to be subject to less growth hormones than their larger counterparts and thus have greater nutritional content.
  • Bottled water is usually demineralized through reverse osmosis and are usually slightly more acidic than your bloodstream’s natural pH of about 7.4; it not only does not contribute the necessary minerals to your body but can flood out the ones you do consume. On the other hand, tap water is extremely dangerous due to the high chlorine count (and sometimes aluminum, due to the elaborate network of piping the water travels through).

  1. It’s too bad that we have to research nutrition on our own. The food industry only wants us to know what they deem necessary for their bottom line. Your (interesting stuff) as you put it, is very good information and if a person applied only one or two of your tips they would be healthier!
